Public Servants Unite for Wellness and Team Spirit at UNAM Fun Day. Public servants from various ministries and government departments gathered at the University of Namibia (UNAM) Main Campus for the Public Service Marathon and Fun Day, a wellness event aimed at promoting fitness, unity, and teamwork within the public sector.
The event brought together officials from multiple institutions, including the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare (MGECW), who participated in a variety of recreational and sporting activities. The programme featured a wellness walk, netball, soccer, and volleyball games — all designed to strengthen relationships across departments while encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle among public servants.
The Public Servants Wellness Day reflects ongoing efforts to build a more motivated and health-conscious workforce, recognising that employee well-being plays a vital role in improving productivity and service delivery. The combination of physical activity and team-based games also reinforced the importance of collaboration and camaraderie in achieving shared national goals.
Participants expressed enthusiasm for the event, describing it as an opportunity to reconnect, recharge, and celebrate the spirit of public service beyond office walls. The atmosphere was filled with friendly competition and laughter as teams from different ministries competed for fun rather than formality.
Events like these form part of broader initiatives within Namibia’s public service to encourage work-life balance, boost morale, and foster collaboration among employees. The success of this year’s event highlights growing recognition of wellness as a key pillar of a sustainable and effective public sector.
