Prime Minister Launches “The Dawn of Dignity” Initiative to Tackle Period Poverty and Support Albinism. The Government of Namibia has officially launched a nationwide campaign aimed at restoring dignity and promoting inclusivity among schoolchildren. The Right Honourable Prime Minister today unveiled “The Dawn of Dignity: Breaking Barriers for Albinism and Menstrual Health” at Don Bosco Primary School in Keetmanshoop, //Kharas Region.

The initiative seeks to confront two pressing social challenges — menstrual health and support for individuals with albinism — by ensuring access to sanitary pads and sunscreen for children across the country. It marks a coordinated effort by the Ministries of Education, Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Health and Social Services, and Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture.

According to government data, an estimated 38,000 Namibians live with albinism, while thousands of girls face limited access to menstrual hygiene products due to financial constraints. The initiative aims to address both forms of exclusion by empowering children to live, learn, and participate in society with confidence and dignity.

As part of the rollout, the //Kharas Region has already received 2,978 of the 41,700 sanitary pad packs earmarked for nationwide distribution — marking the first phase of the ongoing project.

Officials emphasized that beyond providing essential supplies, “The Dawn of Dignity” will focus on inclusive education, awareness campaigns, and community engagement to dispel myths and reduce stigma surrounding albinism and menstruation.

The launch represents a significant step toward advancing equality, promoting public health, and ensuring that no Namibian child is left behind due to barriers of poverty or prejudice.
