Ndama East Primary School Opens Registration as Transition to Public Status Begins. Ndama East Primary School officially began learner registration this morning following its declaration as a public school in September. The development marks a significant transition for the institution, which has operated for several years without formal recognition.
According to information provided, more than 1,000 learners have already been registered since the process opened. The registration follows the school’s legal recognition, allowing it to operate within the public education system.
As part of the transition, volunteer teachers who have been teaching at the school for the past four years have been instructed to remain at home pending the outcome of a formal recruitment process. The interview process will be used to identify qualified candidates for appointment as permanent government teachers.
Former school principal Asser Ndara and several affected teachers expressed disappointment with the decision in comments to Eagle Media House. The teachers have been involved in teaching at the school during the period when it operated without official public status.
Kavango East Director of Education Christine Shilima confirmed the directive, stating that the school’s new status requires all teaching staff to meet government employment standards. She said that teachers working at Ndama East must be fully qualified and officially employed by the government, which includes being paid a full government salary.
Shilima explained that volunteer teachers were asked to stay at home to allow for the formalisation of staffing arrangements in line with public service requirements. She added that the teachers agreed to the decision.
The interview process is expected to determine which candidates will be appointed on a permanent basis once the school is fully integrated into the public education system. The move forms part of the broader administrative steps required to align Ndama East Primary School with national education policies and staffing regulations following its recognition as a public institution.
The registration process continues as the school prepares to operate under its new status, while staffing decisions are finalised through the official recruitment procedures.
