National Cycling Championships Set for A1 Freeway Showdown

National Cycling Championships Set for A1 Freeway Showdown. Namibia’s leading cyclists are set to compete on the new A1 Dr. Hage Geingob Freeway when the 2026 Nedbank National Road and Time Trial Championships take place from 6 to 8 February.

The annual championships bring together riders from across the country to contest national titles in both the individual time trial and road race disciplines. Winners earn the distinction of wearing the national champion’s jersey in competition for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Racing begins on Friday with the Individual Time Trial (ITT). Elite and Under-23 men will cover a distance of 42 kilometres, while women competitors will race over 28 kilometres. The time trial route will be staged near Ongolo Bridge along the A1 corridor.

The championships will conclude on Sunday with the road race events. The women’s race is scheduled over a distance of 114 kilometres, while the men will face a 165-kilometre course. Both races will take place on sections of the A1 freeway, providing a high-speed setting for the national contest.

The event follows last year’s victories by Alex Miller and Anri Greef, who secured the top honours in their respective categories. This year’s competition is expected to once again draw strong participation from elite and developing riders aiming to claim national titles.

National road and time trial championships play a key role in Namibia’s cycling calendar, offering athletes the opportunity to test themselves in championship conditions and earn national recognition. The event also highlights the country’s growing cycling profile and the use of major road infrastructure for competitive sport.

With titles at stake and national colours on the line, the A1 Freeway will provide the stage for three days of racing as cyclists compete for top honours in Namibia’s premier road cycling championships.
