Namibian Filmmaker Jacky Pop Explores Creative Collaboration Opportunities in China

Namibian Filmmaker Jacky Pop Explores Creative Collaboration Opportunities in China. Namibian filmmaker and actor Jackson Nghinamhito, popularly known as Jacky Pop, recently returned from China after participating in the 4th China–Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) in Changsha. Representing his company, Films Icon, Jacky Pop was selected by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board to take part in the event.

Describing the visit as more than just a business trip, Jacky Pop said the experience offered valuable insights into China’s creative and film industries while also opening doors for potential partnerships.“It was an eye-opening journey that highlighted the opportunities for cooperation between Namibia and China in film, media, and the broader creative sectors,” he shared.

Although he initially had concerns about visiting a new country, he noted that the warm reception quickly eased his nerves. One of the standout moments, he said, was the opportunity to network with professionals from China’s entertainment sector. Among them were film producer Suyue Zhou, and Dan, general manager of the Hunan Performing Arts Group.

He toured several facilities, including the Hunan Performing Arts Group and the Mango TV Video Industrial Park, which he described as highly developed and well-resourced. He was particularly impressed by the professional rehearsal spaces, technical equipment, and costume collections.

In addition to the industry engagements, Jacky Pop also got a taste of Chinese culture. He received a personalised calligraphy gift from artist Yuejin Yan and took part in a traditional meal, which he described as serene and respectful.

Reflecting on the visit, he expressed optimism for future collaborations and co-productions between Namibian and Chinese creatives. “This was a reminder that Namibia’s creative industry holds international potential,” he said, adding with a smile, “I still dream of meeting Jackie Chan – the actor who first inspired me.”
