Namibia Reviews Agricultural Training Standards to Meet Industry and Skills Needs

Namibia Reviews Agricultural Training Standards to Meet Industry and Skills NNeeds. The Namibia Training Authority (NTA) has convened a Technical Working Group (TWG) to review agriculture qualifications and unit competency standards as part of efforts to ensure vocational education and training remains aligned with the evolving needs of the country’s agricultural sector.

The three-day workshop brings together industry experts, employers, training providers and other stakeholders to assess existing qualifications and identify areas where updates are required to reflect current industry demands.

Coordinated by TVET Standards Development Coordinator Josephine Kadhila, the review process focuses on evaluating occupational profiles, identifying current and emerging occupations, defining the knowledge, skills and competencies required by employers, and aligning qualifications with Namibia’s National Development Plan 6 (NDP6).

According to the NTA, the review is intended to ensure that vocational education and training programmes continue to equip learners with skills that are relevant to the labour market and responsive to developments within the agriculture sector.

The Technical Working Group forms part of the authority’s standards development process, which relies on collaboration between industry and training institutions to develop qualifications that reflect workplace requirements.

By involving employers and sector specialists in the review process, the NTA aims to strengthen the relevance of agricultural qualifications while supporting the development of a workforce with competencies that match industry expectations.

The workshop also provides stakeholders with an opportunity to assess emerging trends within agriculture and consider how vocational qualifications can respond to changing occupational requirements.
