Namibia Records Multiple Medal Wins at 4th African Youth Games in Angola. Namibia’s athletes have delivered a series of podium finishes at the 4th African Youth Games currently taking place in Angola, with medals secured across swimming, golf and athletics events.
In the swimming pool, the Namibian team has so far collected seven medals. Lorenzo Esterhuizen accounted for the country’s only gold medal to date after winning the 200 metre butterfly. He later added a silver medal in the 200 metre backstroke, contributing further to Namibia’s medal tally. Madison Bergh secured a bronze medal in the 400 metre freestyle, while another silver medal was claimed by the 4×100 metre mixed relay team. The relay squad consisted of Bergh, Esterhuizen, Rodney Feris and Victoria de Sousa.
Golf also added to Namibia’s overall medal count, with Samuel Nel earning a silver medal on Sunday. The golf competition saw Zimbabwe take the top honours, with Munesu Chimhini winning gold in the boys’ category and Miriam Masiya claiming gold in the girls’ category.
The athletics programme concluded with Namibia finishing with four medals in track and field events. Silver medals were won by Lumé Jansen van Rensburg in the 100 metre hurdles and Alexandra Scheepers in the high jump. Miheshco Mouton collected two bronze medals after placing third in both the 100 metre and 200 metre races.
In the field events, Pro-Ed Akademie athlete L’Wyk Viljoen narrowly missed out on a podium finish, placing fourth in both the discus throw and shot put competitions.
The medal results reflect Namibia’s participation across multiple sporting codes at the continental youth event. The African Youth Games continue to serve as a platform for young athletes from across the continent to compete at an international level and gain valuable experience.
As the Games progress, Namibia’s performances in swimming, golf and athletics have already secured a notable presence on the medal table through consistent podium finishes.
