Namibia Reaffirms Commitment to Africa’s Unified Voice on UN Reform at AU C-10 Meeting

Namibia Reaffirms Commitment to Africa’s Unified Voice on UN Reform at AU C-10 Meeting. Namibia has reiterated its firm support for a united African stance on United Nations Security Council reform during the 13th Ministerial Meeting of the African Union Committee of Ten (C-10), held from 3 to 4 June 2025 in Lusaka.

Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Hon. Jenelly Matundu, led the Namibian delegation at the high-level meeting, which focused on strengthening continental consensus on reforming the global governance structure. The Ministerial Meeting followed preparatory discussions by Permanent Representatives of C-10 Member States to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN).

The C-10, mandated to advocate for Africa’s interests on Security Council reform, deliberated on ways to deepen support for the Common African Position (CAP), as articulated in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration. The goal remains to secure fair representation for Africa within the UN’s principal decision-making body.

In her remarks, Hon. Matundu emphasized the importance of unity among AU Member States in promoting and defending Africa’s collective position. She noted that Africa must leverage the momentum created by global initiatives such as the Pact for the Future to revitalize the multilateral reform agenda.

Namibia also expressed its support for the swift finalization of the African Union’s Model on Security Council Reform. Hon. Matundu underlined the significance of submitting this model ahead of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly to ensure Africa’s position is prominently featured in reform discussions.

The C-10 meeting reflects ongoing efforts to amplify Africa’s voice on the international stage and address longstanding concerns about representation and equity within the global system.
