Namibia Marks Safer Internet Day With Nationwide Awareness Campaign in Schools. Namibia marked Safer Internet Day with nationwide awareness activities aimed at promoting responsible and secure online behaviour, particularly among children and young people.
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, working in collaboration with Salt Essential IT, the Namibian Police, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, and LifeLine/ChildLine Namibia, visited Simanya Combined School and Himarwa Iithete Senior Secondary School on Tuesday to engage learners on safe internet use.
The outreach formed part of Namibia’s participation in the global observance of Safer Internet Day, which encourages individuals, communities, and institutions to reflect on how digital spaces can be used responsibly and securely.
During the school visits, organisers shared guidance on practical steps that users can take to protect themselves online.
Members of the public were advised to safeguard personal information, create complex passwords for every account, enable two factor authentication, and carefully review privacy settings across digital platforms.
They were also encouraged to verify online content before sharing it, report cybercrime when encountered, and remain mindful of the long term impact of what is posted on the internet.
Safer Internet Day is observed worldwide as a platform to promote digital awareness, online safety, and responsible technology use among people of all ages.
In Namibia, the commemoration forms part of broader efforts by government and partners to strengthen public understanding of online risks and responsible digital engagement.
This year, national celebrations of Safer Internet Day will be held alongside World Radio Day on 14 February at the Mururani Veterinary Checkpoint in the Mankumpi constituency.
The joint observance is expected to bring together stakeholders and communities to highlight the role of communication platforms in promoting awareness, education, and responsible information sharing.
Officials emphasised that ongoing awareness initiatives remain essential in supporting safer digital participation and strengthening protection for internet users nationwide.
