Namibia Joins SADC Mission to Observe Malawi Elections. Namibia has joined the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Election Observer Mission (SEOM) to monitor the Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Authority elections scheduled for 16 September 2025 in the Republic of Malawi.

The SEOM operates in line with the SADC Protocol on Politics, Defence and Security, and its work is guided by the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections. The mission’s mandate is to ensure that elections within the region adhere to democratic standards and reflect the will of the people.

Leading Namibia’s contingent is Mr. Samuel Felix Amporo, Deputy Director at the Ministry of International Relations and Trade. The team also includes representatives from the Namibian High Commission in Zambia, the Office of the President, the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, the Parliament of Namibia, and the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL).

According to the Ministry, Namibia’s participation in the observer mission underscores its commitment to regional cooperation and the promotion of democratic governance across SADC member states. Election observer missions play a key role in strengthening transparency, fostering public confidence, and encouraging best practices in electoral processes.
