Namibia Joins Regional Diamond Partnership Through Luanda Accord. Namibia has formally become a signatory to the Luanda Accord, marking its entry into a regional initiative focused on strengthening and promoting the natural diamond industry. The agreement was signed on Monday 9 February 2026 during a high level meeting held alongside the African Mining Indaba 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa.
By signing the accord, Namibia joins other formal signatories including Angola, Botswana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The agreement brings together African diamond producing nations and industry stakeholders seeking to support long term investment in the natural diamond sector.
As part of its commitment, Namibia has agreed to contribute one percent of its yearly revenue from the sale of rough diamonds to support the marketing and promotion of natural diamonds through the National Diamond Council.
Established in 2025, the Luanda Accord serves as a platform to coordinate efforts aimed at protecting and advancing the position of natural diamonds in global markets. It is managed by the National Diamond Council, which oversees the collection and allocation of contributions from participating members.
The fund created under the agreement is intended to support initiatives designed to promote natural diamonds and strengthen market demand. It also seeks to counter the growing presence of synthetic alternatives while highlighting the value of natural, ethically sourced stones.
Namibia’s participation aligns the country with other African producers working collectively to advance shared interests within the diamond industry. The signing reflects continued engagement among governments and industry bodies involved in shaping the future of natural diamond production and marketing.
Officials said the agreement provides a structured mechanism for cooperation among participating countries and organizations involved in the sector. Through coordinated marketing and shared contributions members aim to reinforce the visibility and positioning of natural diamonds in international markets over time while maintaining collaborative engagement across regions.
