Namibia and Portugal Strengthen Ties for Green Logistics Corridors. The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) and Portugal’s Administração dos Portos de Sines e do Algarve, SA have entered into a strategic partnership to advance green and digital logistics corridors. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to enhance connectivity, trade, and investment between the two nations.
Namport highlighted that the agreement builds upon the historical and economic ties between Namibia and Portugal, aligning with the European Commission’s Global Gateway initiative. This initiative seeks to mobilize €300 billion in investments to develop smart, clean, and secure infrastructure across the energy, transport, and digital sectors.
Under the agreement, Portugal’s Port of Sines will serve as a key logistics hub in Europe, while Namibia positions itself as a leader in renewable energy, particularly in green hydrogen production. The ports of Walvis Bay and Lüderitz will play a crucial role in supporting these efforts by facilitating exports and improving regional trade flows.
Namport emphasized the significance of this partnership in establishing an Atlantic hub for handling critical raw materials, synthetic fuels, and green hydrogen. The collaboration is expected to enhance Namibia and Portugal’s roles as global players in sustainable energy and trade.
The MoU is set to last for five years, during which both parties will explore opportunities to enhance port development and improve logistics infrastructure. This agreement marks a major step toward strengthening economic ties and promoting sustainable trade between Namibia and Portugal.
