Namibia and Cuba Launch Inaugural Intergovernmental Commission to Boost Bilateral Cooperation. Namibia and Cuba have inaugurated the first session of their Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, marking a new chapter in the countries’ long-standing diplomatic and economic relationship. The session was held in Havana on 29 September 2025, bringing together senior officials from both nations to formalize mechanisms for trade, investment, and development collaboration.

Hon. Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Trade, led the Namibian delegation, expressing gratitude to Cuba for its hospitality and for the enduring support the country has provided since Namibia’s independence. “From Cassinga to Cuito Cuanavale, Namibia and Cuba are bound by eternal friendship,” she said, highlighting Cuba’s contributions to Namibia through professional deployment in health, education, construction, defense, and youth training programs.

The Commission establishes a structured platform to identify priority areas of cooperation and implement joint projects that yield tangible benefits for both countries. Minister Ashipala-Musavyi emphasized the need to translate historical solidarity into economic and commercial partnerships, encouraging technical experts to explore innovative strategies to stimulate trade and investment amidst a challenging global trade environment.
