Kavango East Launches #EndGBVNamibia Campaign to Tackle Gender-Based Violence. Kavango East Governor Hamunyera Hambyuka has officially launched the #EndGBVNamibia campaign in Rundu, marking a renewed regional commitment to addressing the persistent issue of gender-based violence (GBV).
The campaign comes in response to alarming statistics, with 42 GBV cases reported in the region since January 2025 alone. Governor Hambyuka emphasized that despite various national efforts, GBV remains a pressing concern requiring unified community action.
Key drivers of GBV in the region include alcohol abuse, drug use, and jealousy. However, the campaign firmly rejects any justification for violence, stressing that no factor excuses abuse of any kind.
The #EndGBVNamibia campaign urges residents to speak out, support survivors, and actively participate in efforts to dismantle the social norms that enable abuse. Through dialogue, education, and community involvement, the initiative aims to ignite lasting change.
The campaign also highlights the need for stronger support systems for victims, including better access to counseling, legal protection, and safe spaces. Local leaders and residents are being called on to serve as allies in the fight against GBV.
Governor Hambyuka concluded with a call to action: “Every voice matters. Together, we must protect the most vulnerable and ensure that our homes and communities are safe for all.”
The #EndGBVNamibia initiative will continue with outreach programs, school engagements, and stakeholder workshops throughout the Kavango East region.
