Hyphen Awards Major Green Hydrogen Contract to Chinese Engineering Giant CNCEC. Hyphen Hydrogen Energy has awarded a significant contract to China National Chemical Engineering Corporation (CNCEC) and its subsidiary China National Chemical Engineering & Construction Corporation Seven (CC7) for the front-end engineering design (FEED) and potential future execution of the ammonia production facility for its landmark green hydrogen project in Namibia.
The contract, announced Wednesday, covers both FEED and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work, specifically for the ammonia chemical production component of the project. However, any EPC activities will only commence following a successful final investment decision, which will be made after FEED completion.
Hyphen confirmed that CNCEC was selected after a competitive international tender process that assessed both technical excellence and alignment with sustainability and local content priorities. The agreement is part of a broader strategy that will see multiple FEED and EPC contracts awarded across different segments of the large-scale green hydrogen development.
“The appointment of CNCEC reflects our strategic commitment to engaging global leaders in chemical engineering while ensuring local participation and long-term economic benefit,” said Hyphen in a statement. “This partnership will allow us to leverage CNCEC’s experience in delivering large-scale ammonia projects alongside international and local partners.”
Giuseppe Surace, Chief Operating Officer at Hyphen, described the agreement as a major milestone. “This is a pivotal step in realising our vision to position Namibia as a global player in green hydrogen,” he said.
Hyphen is a Namibian-registered joint venture between ENERTRAG SE and Nicholas Holdings Limited. The Namibian government, through SDG Namibia One, holds a 24% equity stake in the company. The project remains in its development stage, with ongoing planning, permitting, and stakeholder engagement.
