Groot Aub Residents Assured Municipal Services Will Remain Free During Development DDrive. Residents of Groot Aub have been assured that municipal services provided by the City of Windhoek will remain free of charge as development initiatives in the settlement continue.

The assurance was given during a consultative meeting held on 4 August 2026, which brought together the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sankwasa James Sankwasa, representatives from the City of Windhoek, the Khomas Regional Council and members of the Groot Aub community.

The meeting focused on several development priorities, including land ownership, housing, municipal services, infrastructure and future spatial planning for the area.During the engagement, the City of Windhoek’s Strategic Executive for Property Management and Human Settlements, Faniel Maanda, confirmed that residents continue to receive water, sewerage and solid waste services at no cost.

Maanda also outlined ongoing investment in the settlement’s water infrastructure, highlighting the Phase 2 Groot Aub Water Pipeline Upgrade. According to the City, the latest pipeline replacement project brings its total investment in Groot Aub’s water infrastructure to N$18.4 million, including N$11 million spent on pipeline materials.

The infrastructure project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen essential services as development in the settlement continues.Addressing residents, Minister Sankwasa acknowledged the community’s expectations for development while emphasising that progress requires time.

Quoting the well-known saying, “Rome wasn’t built in one day,” he encouraged residents to remain patient as government and local authorities continue implementing development initiatives.

The minister also cautioned community members against the illegal sale of land, stressing that land allocation is governed by legal processes. He urged residents to secure lease agreements as the lawful basis for occupying and developing their properties.
