FNB Namibia Supports Literacy Drive with Book Donations to Local Schools

FNB Namibia Supports Literacy Drive with Book Donations to Local Schools. With literacy levels among Namibian children under growing concern, FNB Namibia has stepped in to support efforts aimed at improving reading and numeracy skills in the country. Statistics reveal that seven out of ten children in Namibia are unable to read or perform basic mathematics by the age of ten, a challenge that continues to impact future learning outcomes.

Through its corporate social responsibility arm, the FirstRand Namibia Foundation, FNB staff donated children’s reading books valued at N$10,000 to five educational institutions in Windhoek. The beneficiaries include Suiderhof Primary School, Orban Primary School, Emma Hoogenhout Primary School, Auas Primary School, and Dagbreek Centre.

The donation forms part of the bank’s ongoing initiatives to improve access to quality learning materials and create opportunities for young learners to strengthen foundational skills. According to FNB Namibia, the gesture is not just about books, but about laying the groundwork for long-term educational success.

“Education is the foundation of our nation’s progress. By empowering children with the tools to read, we are investing in Namibia’s future,” the FirstRand Namibia Foundation noted in a statement.

The bank emphasized that while this initiative marks a step in the right direction, addressing the literacy crisis will require collective action from communities, government, and the private sector. The call for partnerships reflects a growing recognition that sustainable development relies heavily on education and human capital development.

With this contribution, FNB Namibia reaffirms its commitment to social investment in education, encouraging other institutions and individuals to join in ensuring that no child is left behind.
