City of Windhoek and Namclear Bring Warmth and Dignity to Vulnerable Residents

City of Windhoek and Namclear Bring Warmth and Dignity to Vulnerable Residents. In a meaningful show of solidarity, the City of Windhoek’s Social and Youth Development Division, in partnership with Namclear (Pty) Ltd, hosted a soup kitchen initiative to support vulnerable residents living in temporary shelters.

The initiative, held at Khomasdal Stadium and the Katutura Youth Complex, reached approximately 1,528 individuals, including children, many of whom have been residing in these shelters since the COVID-19 outbreak. For those facing daily challenges in accessing food, the event provided more than a meal, it offered dignity, compassion, and a sense of community care.

Namclear, Namibia’s national Automated Clearing House, supported the initiative through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Club. The effort was led by CEO Fabian Tait, with Namclear staff volunteering their time to prepare and serve meals, creating a hands-on, people-first approach to giving.

Speaking at the event, Cecilia Iita, CSR Officer at Namclear, emphasized the company’s commitment to meaningful engagement. “We wanted to do more than just give funds, we wanted to be part of the solution,” she said. Iita also noted that Namclear intends to repeat the initiative at least twice a year.

The City of Windhoek highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration to meet the needs of residents most affected by economic hardship. The partnership represents a working model for how private companies and local authorities can align efforts to uplift underserved communities.

As Windhoek continues to address the lingering effects of the pandemic on its most vulnerable citizens, initiatives like this remind all stakeholders that compassionate action remains a powerful tool for building stronger, more inclusive communities.
