Bank Windhoek Invests Over N$1.4 Million in Namibian Sports Development. Bank Windhoek has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development in Namibia with a combined sponsorship of N$1.41 million to three national sports federations. The Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF), Namibia Aquatic Sports Federation (NASFED), and Namibia Chess Federation (NCF) will receive N$460,000, N$400,000, and N$550,000 respectively for 2025.
Announced on Tuesday, 18 February 2025, the sponsorships aim to support the growth of volleyball, swimming, and chess while providing young athletes with opportunities to develop their skills and compete at national and international levels.
NVF Vice President Liina Mattheus emphasized the importance of grassroots development, stating that without proper investment in young talent, Namibia would not be able to maintain strong national teams.
For swimming, NASFED President Riaan Steyn highlighted that the funding will enhance swimming gala events across the country, helping athletes improve their times and qualify for national and international championships. Additionally, NASFED will launch a ‘Learn to Swim’ programme, which includes a roadshow bringing swimming training to communities. A portion of the funds will also be used to train coaches, ensuring sustainable skills development.
NCF Acting President Berdian Beukes described the sponsorship as an investment in youth, education, and critical thinking. He stressed that chess is more than just a game—it sharpens problem-solving skills, improves concentration, and enhances academic performance.
Bank Windhoek’s financial backing underscores its role in empowering Namibian youth through sport. By supporting these three federations, the bank is contributing to talent development, increased sports participation, and enhancing Namibia’s competitiveness on the global stage.
