Bank of Namibia Warns Public Against Fake Online Investment Scheme. The Bank of Namibia (BoN) has issued a strong caution to the public following the circulation of a fraudulent online advertisement that unlawfully uses the image of the Governor to promote a fake investment scheme.
According to the central bank, neither the Governor nor the institution is involved in soliciting investments of any kind. The advert, which has appeared on social media platforms and suspicious websites, falsely implies that the bank is backing a quick-return investment product. BoN has stressed that such claims are entirely illegitimate and pose serious financial risks to unsuspecting individuals.
The Bank has urged members of the public not to engage with the fraudulent content. Specifically, people are advised not to click on any links, share personal details, or transfer money in response to these adverts.
“The Governor and the Bank of Namibia do not endorse or promote any investment schemes. This is a scam designed to mislead and exploit the public,” the statement read.
Consumers are reminded to verify information directly through the Bank’s official website and social media channels before making any financial decisions. The BoN further encouraged the public to report suspected fraudulent activities to the dedicated email address illegalschemes@bon.com.na or call +264 61 283 5111.
This warning comes at a time when online scams are becoming more sophisticated across Southern Africa, targeting individuals and businesses alike. The Bank emphasised that vigilance is critical to safeguarding personal finances, and that only information communicated through its official platforms should be trusted.
