Erongo Regional Council Explores Vocational Training EExpansion. The Chief Regional Officer of the Erongo Regional Council, Dr Mupenzeni S. Ntelamo, paid a courtesy call on Mr Erick Fundula Nenghwanya, Chief Executive Officer of the Namibia Training Authority (NTA), this week. The engagement focused on opportunities to expand vocational education and training capacity in the Erongo Region, aligning with national development priorities.
Discussions centred on the potential establishment of a future‑focused vocational training institution that could attract learners from across Namibia and equip them with specialised skills required by the country’s rapidly evolving economy.
Dr Ntelamo highlighted that the Erongo Region is experiencing significant investment in mining, oil and gas, green hydrogen, tourism, and other sectors. While opportunities continue to grow, industries have identified shortages of specialised skills, often resulting in the importation of expertise that could be developed locally.
The proposed institution would aim to address these challenges by offering innovative programmes aligned to emerging industries, supporting greater participation by Namibians in high‑value sectors of the economy.
The meeting also underscored the importance of collaboration between regional authorities and national training institutions. By working together, stakeholders believe they can create a vocational training model that not only meets immediate industry needs but also anticipates future demands in Namibia’s economic landscape.
The courtesy call was attended by senior officials, including Mr Dismon Kambatuamasa (ERC Director: Development Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation) and Dr Sackeus Pohamba (NTA Senior Manager: Corporate Strategy), reflecting the strategic importance of the discussions.
