Namibia’s Central Bank Governor Highlights Financing at Blue Economy WWorkshop. This week, the Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Mr Ebson Uanguta, attended the 29th Annual Research Workshop on the Blue Economy in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The event was hosted by Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA), an independent research institution dedicated to generating and applying knowledge to support socio-economic development.

Held under the theme “Transforming the Blue Economy for Inclusive and Sustainable Development in Tanzania”, the workshop addressed the urgent need for countries to harness maritime and aquatic resources to strengthen trade and competitiveness, build climate resilience, and drive sustainable economic growth.

Governor Uanguta delivered the keynote address and participated as a panelist in a session titled “Financing the Blue Economy’s Opportunities for Growth.” In his remarks, he provided a Namibian perspective and shared the country’s experiences in leveraging financial strategies to support blue economy initiatives. His contribution underscored the importance of aligning financial systems with sustainable resource management to unlock opportunities for inclusive development.

The workshop also benefited from the presence of His Excellency Mr Gabriel Sinimbo, Namibia’s High Commissioner to the United Republic of Tanzania. His attendance reinforced Namibia’s commitment to regional collaboration and knowledge exchange in advancing blue economy strategies.

REPOA emphasized that the workshop was designed to foster dialogue among policymakers, researchers, and practitioners on how best to integrate blue economy principles into national development agendas. By focusing on practical approaches to financing, trade, and sustainability, the event highlighted the role of partnerships in ensuring that maritime and aquatic resources contribute meaningfully to long-term socio-economic progress.

The participation of Namibia’s central bank leadership and diplomatic representatives reflected the country’s active engagement in regional efforts to strengthen the blue economy as a driver of inclusive and sustainable development.
