Namibia Hosts National Workshop on ePing SPS & TBT Platform

Namibia Hosts National Workshop on ePing SPS & TBT PPlatform. The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME), in collaboration with the Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT), the Namibian Standards Institution (NSI), and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Secretariat, convened a National Workshop on the ePing SPS & TBT Platform yesterday in Windhoek.

The workshop was designed to strengthen Namibia’s trade competitiveness, regulatory transparency, and compliance with international standards. It also aimed to build technical capacity among stakeholders while enhancing coordination between regulators and exporters.

Delivering the keynote statement on behalf of the Executive Director, Mr. Tileinge Nghaamwa highlighted the importance of the initiative in improving market access and supporting Namibian businesses. He explained that the ePing platform provides a practical tool for monitoring Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) notifications, helping exporters stay informed about regulatory changes that could affect trade..

“Namibia is one of five African beneficiary countries under the STDF-funded ePing enhancement project alongside Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda,” Nghaamwa said.

The workshop also included training sessions on how to use the WTO-managed ePing platform to track notifications, monitor regulatory developments, and enhance participation in WTO committees. Organizers emphasized that the platform is a critical tool for ensuring that Namibian businesses remain competitive in global markets by aligning with international standards.

By engaging stakeholders from government, industry, and trade institutions, the workshop reinforced Namibia’s commitment to building a transparent and efficient regulatory environment. The initiative is expected to support exporters, improve compliance, and strengthen Namibia’s role in international trade.
