Namibia Pushes Forward with Digital Transformation: Women in Tech Initiative LLaunched. Namibia’s digital future took a significant step forward last week as Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Emma Theofelus, urged the nation to embrace technology without waiting for “perfect conditions.” Speaking at the Huawei ICT Congress Gala Dinner in Windhoek, which also marked the launch of the Women in Tech initiative and the 2026 National Talent Cultivation Project, the Minister emphasized the urgency of unlocking Namibia’s digital economy.
Theofelus highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for innovation, digital inclusion, and skills development. She acknowledged that resistance to technology adoption persists in some communities, particularly regarding digital infrastructure and online services, but stressed that Namibia must continue advancing while communities adapt to new realities.
During the event, the Minister presented awards recognizing contributions to digital innovation and ICT development, underscoring the importance of celebrating progress in the sector. She also called for stronger partnerships between government and the private sector to accelerate Namibia’s digital transformation agenda.
A central focus of her remarks was the empowerment of young people, especially women, through ICT skills. Theofelus noted that initiatives like Women in Tech are vital to ensuring that Namibia’s workforce is prepared for the demands of the future economy.
The gala dinner was attended by Khomas Region Governor Hon. Sam Nujoma, representatives from Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa, the Chinese Embassy in Namibia, and other industry stakeholders. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort required to drive Namibia’s digital transformation.
