Namibia Maps Next Phase of Skills Development at ProTVET IV Planning Workshop in Windhoek. A two-day operational planning workshop for the ProTVET IV initiative has officially begun in Windhoek, bringing together government, development partners, and key institutions to shape the next phase of technical and vocational education in the country.
The workshop, hosted by the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, is taking place from 21 to 22 April 2026. It focuses on operational planning under the ProTVET IV programme, which aims to strengthen technical and vocational education and training systems.
Stakeholders attending include the Namibia Training Authority, the Namibia Qualifications Authority, the European Union, and KfW, among other partners. Discussions during the workshop are centred on reviewing progress made under previous phases of the programme, identifying lessons learned, and aligning priorities for upcoming activities.
According to officials, the ProTVET initiative is designed to improve skills development and expand employment opportunities by strengthening vocational education frameworks. The programme is also intended to ensure that training systems are responsive to labour market needs.
During the opening session, Dalia Mwiya, Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training within the ministry, highlighted ongoing cooperation between Namibia and the Federal Republic of Germany through GIZ. She noted that the new phase of the programme reflects continued efforts to reinforce the country’s TVET sector.
The ProTVET programme is supported by an investment of €3.4 million, aimed at advancing inclusive, labour market-relevant, and future-oriented skills development.
The workshop is expected to conclude with a clearer roadmap for implementation, as partners coordinate efforts to strengthen vocational training systems and support workforce readiness in Namibia.
