Namibia to Launch 2025 16 Days of Activism Campaign in Keetmanshoop. Namibia is preparing for the national launch of the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual global campaign that calls for the end of violence against women and girls. Although the campaign officially runs from 25 November to 10 December each year, the national launch event will take place a day earlier, on 24 November 2025, at J. Stephanus Stadium in Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas Region.
The campaign is recognised worldwide as a platform to raise awareness, strengthen prevention efforts, and mobilise action around the urgent issue of gender-based violence. In Namibia, the initiative brings together government institutions, civil society organisations, youth groups, local leaders, and communities to highlight ongoing challenges while encouraging collective responsibility in addressing them.
The decision to host the national launch in Keetmanshoop places a spotlight on the region’s commitment to tackling gender-based violence and supporting national efforts to promote safety, equality, and justice. The event is expected to draw representatives from various sectors who will participate in awareness activities, public engagement sessions, and discussions aimed at strengthening support systems for survivors.
The 16 Days of Activism campaign remains one of the country’s most visible advocacy programmes, contributing to broader conversations on legal protection, access to services, and community-driven prevention initiatives. Each year, it reinforces the message that eliminating gender-based violence requires consistent collaboration and long-term commitment across all parts of society.
As preparations continue for the 2025 launch, stakeholders across the country are expected to organise parallel events and activities to support the national theme and amplify the call for action. With Keetmanshoop hosting this year’s opening, the //Kharas Region takes on a central role in championing the fight against gender-based violence and advancing efforts to protect women and girls across Namibia.
