Usakos Launches New SME Park to Boost Local Entrepreneurship

Usakos Launches New SME Park to Boost Local Entrepreneurship. The town of Usakos marked a significant milestone with the official groundbreaking of the Usakos SME Park, a new development aimed at expanding economic activity and strengthening opportunities for small and medium enterprises. The project is supported by TransNamib, which allocated the land, and QKR Navachab Gold Mine, which provided development support.

Located near the town’s historic steam engine landmark, the SME Park is envisioned as a future hub for business growth, skills development, and enterprise activity. Local leaders say the initiative represents a long-needed step toward revitalising the area’s commercial environment and creating a more enabling space for entrepreneurs.

The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Hon. Jenelly Matundu, whose presence underscored the national importance of supporting local business ecosystems. The Governor of the Erongo Region, Natalia /Goagoses, also attended the event, adding further recognition to the occasion.

Officials highlighted that the SME Park is expected to serve as a central point for emerging enterprises, offering space and infrastructure that will help entrepreneurs advance their ventures. With the backing of QKR Navachab Gold Mine, the project aligns with ongoing efforts to encourage sustainable economic participation and broaden opportunities in towns across Namibia.

Community representatives expressed optimism that the new SME Park will help unlock business potential, create income-generating avenues, and encourage more residents to pursue entrepreneurial activities. They also acknowledged the importance of partnerships between government, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector in turning developmental ideas into tangible local benefits.

As construction begins, the Usakos SME Park stands as a symbol of renewed ambition for the town—bringing together heritage, investment, and future-focused development to support a stronger and more inclusive local economy.
