Windhoek Junior Council Brings Hope and Compassion to Children Battling Cancer. The City of Windhoek Junior Council has demonstrated the power of youth-led compassion through a meaningful outreach initiative at the Children Fighting Cancer House (CHICA), operated by the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN).
Over the past two months, the young councilors coordinated a donation drive to collect essential supplies, including food, clothing, toiletries, and stationery, for children undergoing cancer treatment and their mothers who reside at CHICA House. The donation, presented earlier today, underscores the Junior Council’s growing role in community development and civic responsibility.
Receiving the donation, Matron Barseba Tjiposa expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the contribution “will go a long way” in supporting the six young residents and their mothers during their extended stays for care. The gesture, she added, reflects the empathy and unity that strengthen communities in times of challenge.
Junior Mayor Milano Gogol emphasized that the initiative was about more than material assistance — it was about spreading compassion and hope. “This is a symbol of unity and care. Acts of kindness like these show that leadership begins with empathy,” Gogol said.
Helena Ndeutapo, Community Development Officer and Coordinator of the Junior Council, commended the students’ commitment, saying the City of Windhoek takes pride in their sense of service and purpose. She highlighted that such initiatives are shaping a generation of civic-minded youth determined to make Windhoek a more caring and inclusive city.
