Simon and Armas Triumph at 2025 Bachmus Coastal Marathon

Simon and Armas Triumph at 2025 Bachmus Coastal Marathon. Matias Simon and former Olympian Alina Armas emerged as the top performers at this year’s Bachmus Coastal Marathon, held on Saturday between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

The 42 km race began at Swakopmund’s Vineta Sports Stadium and concluded at Walvis Bay Private School, drawing a record turnout of around 1,700 participants across various categories.

Simon completed the marathon in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 57 seconds, securing first place after what he described as a challenging but rewarding race. “I enjoyed it and I am very happy to be the winner. Thank you to the organisers for this opportunity to showcase our talent,” Simon said after crossing the finish line.

Sakaria Tangeni claimed second place with a time of 2:15:54, followed by Enock Haufiku in 2:20:30.

In the women’s division, Alina Armas claimed victory with a time of 2:54:33, maintaining her reputation as one of Namibia’s leading long-distance runners. She was followed by former Olympian Beata Naigombe (2:58:48) and Anna Amutoko (3:23:10). The same trio also secured the top three spots in the veterans category.

The 21 km half-marathon saw Rainhold Tomas take first place in the men’s open division with a time of 1:05:29. Tomas, who recently recovered from an injury, said he opted for the half-marathon instead of his usual 42 km race but plans to return to full distance soon.

In the women’s category, Ndahambelela Shelikita led the pack with 1:31:31, followed by Danielle Pretorius (1:33:59) and Nicole Spangenberg (1:34:48).

The Bachmus Coastal Marathon continues to grow as one of Namibia’s premier running events, celebrating endurance, community, and sporting excellence.
