Windhoek Residents in Havana Community Market Area Set for Relocation to New Townships

Windhoek Residents in Havana Community Market Area Set for Relocation to New Townships. The City of Windhoek has issued a formal notice to residents living in the Havana Community Market and Taxi Rank area, advising them to prepare for relocation to their designated plots in the newly developed Havana Extension 8 and Extension 11 townships.

The relocation is part of a broader infrastructure development initiative aimed at improving transportation, public amenities, and urban planning within the area. According to the City, moving residents from the current market and taxi rank site is necessary to complete critical roadworks and bulk water pipeline projects at the Matshitshi & Eneas Peter Nanyemba (Havana 4-Way) intersection.

These works are expected to enhance traffic flow and water supply reliability for both residents and businesses operating in the area. In addition, the relocation will make way for the construction of a new Community Market and Taxi Rank, designed to modernise facilities, improve safety, and provide better access for traders, commuters, and visitors.

City officials have emphasised that the project is aimed at long-term benefits for the entire Havana community. The newly developed townships, Extension 8 and Extension 11, will provide residents with formalised plots and improved living conditions, while supporting planned commercial and public service developments.

Residents are advised to engage with municipal representatives to ensure a smooth transition and to confirm their allocated plots. The City of Windhoek encourages cooperation from all affected individuals to facilitate the timely completion of these infrastructure upgrades.

The relocation forms part of Windhoek’s ongoing urban development strategy, which seeks to balance community needs with infrastructural growth, ensuring sustainable development and improved public service delivery in key township areas.
