Namibia Opens 2025 National Skills Competition in Swakopmund

Namibia Opens 2025 National Skills Competition in Swakopmund. Swakopmund’s MTC Dome came alive today, 22 September 2025, as Honorable Natalia Goagoses, Governor of Erongo Region, officially opened the 2025 National Skills Competition (NSCS2025) on behalf of Her Excellency, Dr. Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia.

The event, which runs until 27 September, is organised through a partnership between the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, the Namibia Training Authority (NTA), and WorldSkills Namibia. This year’s competition is being held under the theme, “Elevating the Quality and Impact of Namibia’s TVET Delivery Model.”

In his remarks, NTA Chief Executive Officer Erick Fundula Nenghwanya highlighted the competition’s role in addressing Namibia’s most pressing challenges. More than 321 delegates are expected to participate in a three-day skills panel discussion aimed at exploring strategies for youth empowerment, bridging the unemployment gap, and creating opportunities through technical and vocational training.

Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Sanet Steenkamp, underscored the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in shaping Namibia’s future. She emphasised that skills development is not only about building careers but also about strengthening the nation’s economic foundation and advancing social progress.

The NSCS2025 has become a premier platform to showcase the talents and innovation of Namibian youth while reinforcing the country’s commitment to expanding TVET. By providing a stage for both competition and collaboration, the event is expected to spark new opportunities for skills development that will benefit Namibia for years to come.
