Windhoek Competes in SAIMSA Games in Lesotho. The City of Windhoek is among the municipalities participating in the Southern Africa Inter Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA) Games, currently underway in Maseru, Lesotho, from 22 to 26 September 2025.
Held under the theme “Stronger Together in Wellness for SADC Local Authorities,” the event underscores the role of sports in promoting unity, wellness, and collaboration across municipalities in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
This year’s edition has drawn wide regional participation, with Botswana represented by 13 towns, Namibia by 13 towns, Eswatini by 8 towns, Lesotho fielding 11 teams, and South Africa contributing 23 towns. The strong turnout reflects the growing recognition of sports as a bridge for regional cooperation and a platform to foster healthy, active lifestyles among municipal employees.
The City of Windhoek has lined up athletes in a broad range of disciplines, including soccer, netball, volleyball, tug of war, tennis, marathon, fishing, darts, pool, ringboard, and owela. By taking part in this diverse sporting programme, Windhoek not only showcases talent but also strengthens ties with fellow municipalities across the region.
The SAIMSA Games continue to stand as a key avenue for building camaraderie among SADC local authorities, while reinforcing the importance of wellness in workplace culture. As the competitions unfold in Maseru, Windhoek’s delegation will be looking to make its mark both on and off the field.
