Namibia Urged to Harness Oil and Gas Discoveries for Long-Term PProsperity. The 3rd Oil and Gas Conference 2025 opened in Windhoek with a call for Namibia to position itself as a global leader in energy. Speaking at the official opening at the Mercure Hotel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Hon. Ithete, encouraged participants to use the platform to shape a sustainable and prosperous future for the country’s emerging oil and gas sector.
“We must take a stand to manage and guide our offshore discovery jealously, and be a model country that translates oil and gas discovery into a catalyst for peace, unity and prosperity,” he said. “Let our future generations sing songs of praise to all of us here today for putting in place legal frameworks and operational tools that will ensure there is no mismanagement of these precious resources.”
Hon. Ithete underscored the sector’s economic potential, noting that Namibia’s oil and gas industry could generate up to N$7.7 billion annually in government revenue through royalties and taxes. He stressed the importance of building robust governance structures and ensuring that the benefits of resource development are widely shared.
The conference, which runs until 15 August 2025, has brought together government representatives, industry leaders, investors, and development partners to discuss strategies for developing Namibia’s oil and gas sector responsibly. Topics on the agenda include regulatory frameworks, environmental stewardship, and investment opportunities.
By fostering dialogue among key stakeholders, the event aims to set the foundation for an oil and gas industry that contributes to economic growth while safeguarding the nation’s natural resources.
