Windhoek Mayoral Trust Donates Jerseys to Support Vulnerable Learners. Windhoek’s commitment to uplifting its most vulnerable communities was on display today as the Windhoek Residents Mayoral Trust handed over 538 jerseys, valued at N$80,000, to learners from 24 primary and secondary schools in the Khomas Region.
The official handover was led by Windhoek Mayor, Councillor Ndeshihafela Larandja, who described the initiative as more than just material support, but a reflection of solidarity and compassion.
“This occasion is not just about material support, it is a symbol of solidarity, human dignity, and the kind of city we aspire to be: a caring, inclusive, and compassionate city that leaves no child behind,” said Cllr Larandja. She encouraged learners to remain committed to their studies and persevere through challenges.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiary schools, Director of the Khomas Region Directorate of Education, Paulus Nghikembua, expressed appreciation to the City of Windhoek and its partners. He emphasised the importance of sustaining and expanding such collaborations to reach more learners, especially those in informal settlements and under-resourced communities.
The jerseys will benefit learners who often face harsh winter conditions without adequate clothing, helping them to stay warm and focused during classes.
Established in 2017 as the Mayoral Relief Fund, the Windhoek Residents Mayoral Trust aims to support vulnerable residents and drive community development initiatives. Governed by a Board of Trustees, the Trust oversees a range of projects designed to address pressing social needs.
Today’s donation adds to the Trust’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity, ensure no learner is disadvantaged due to circumstance, and build a stronger sense of community across the capital.
