Namibia’s International Relations Minister Arrives in Madagascar for 45th SADC Summit Preparations. Hon. Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Trade, arrived in Antananarivo, Madagascar on 10 August 2025 to participate in high-level engagements ahead of the 45th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit of Heads of State and Government. She was welcomed by Hon. Dr. Rasata Rafaravavitafika, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar.
The Minister will take part in the SADC Council of Ministers Meeting, a key preparatory session that sets the agenda for the Summit. She will also lead Namibia’s delegation to the Ministerial Committee of the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. This committee’s work precedes the Summit of the Organ, which addresses regional stability, governance, and security matters.
The 45th SADC Summit, scheduled for 16–17 August 2025, is being held under the theme, “Advancing Industrialisation, Agricultural Transformation, and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC.” Discussions will focus on accelerating regional integration through industrial capacity-building, strengthening regional value chains, modernising agriculture, and ensuring an inclusive energy transition.
The event will bring together Heads of State, Ministers, senior officials, and stakeholders from across the 16-member bloc to assess progress on regional priorities, address emerging challenges, and reaffirm commitments to sustainable growth.
For member states, the Summit presents opportunities to deepen cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and investment, while aligning strategies to foster resilience and competitiveness in global markets. The emphasis on industrialisation, agricultural transformation, and energy transition reflects SADC’s long-term vision of a diversified and self-sustaining regional economy.
Namibia’s participation underscores its commitment to regional development and its role in driving strategic initiatives within SADC. The outcomes from this year’s Summit are expected to influence policy directions that will shape the region’s economic and political trajectory in the years ahead.
