Kavango East Celebrates Academic Excellence at Regional Education Awards Ceremony

Kavango East Celebrates Academic Excellence at Regional Education Awards Ceremony. The Kavango East Regional Directorate of Education hosted its annual Regional Awards Ceremony on Monday at Maria Mwengere Secondary School, recognising the achievements of top-performing learners, outstanding educators, and high-performing schools from across the region.

The ceremony honoured learners excelling under the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS) curriculum, with special recognition given to those ranked among the top 20 performers within each constituency. The event served as a moment to celebrate academic commitment, resilience, and excellence in a region working to strengthen education outcomes.

Delivering the keynote address, Director of Education Christine Shilima reaffirmed the region’s dedication to improving access to quality education. She emphasised that collective responsibility—among teachers, parents, school leadership, and regional authorities—remains key to building a strong foundation for learners, beginning in the early grades.

“The success we are celebrating today is the result of hard work, community support, and a shared vision for educational excellence,” said Shilima. She added that the awards reflect the region’s ongoing efforts to close performance gaps and equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

Educators who demonstrated exceptional classroom leadership and schools that showed improved learner performance were also acknowledged during the ceremony. The event served as a motivating platform to reinforce best practices and encourage a culture of continuous improvement across the education sector.

The Regional Awards Ceremony is an important annual highlight that brings together stakeholders from the public and private sectors, the education community, and civil society—all working to build a more inclusive and impactful education system in Kavango East.
