Namibia Unveils New Currency Series, Reflecting National Identity and Economic Vision

Namibia Unveils New Currency Series, Reflecting National Identity and Economic Vision. Namibia marked a historic moment last night with the official launch of its fully upgraded banknote series and a complete redesign of its coins, the first such overhaul since 1993. The event was held under the patronage of Her Excellency, Hon. Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia.

The new currency designs reflect a strong sense of national pride, economic aspiration, and cultural heritage. Featuring enhanced security elements, vibrant colours, and tactile features for greater accessibility, the new banknotes continue to honour respected national figures and Namibia’s iconic wildlife.

The N$10 and N$20 denominations are now printed on an advanced composite substrate, combining modern durability with the texture familiar to users across the country. Meanwhile, the newly reimagined coins depict key pillars of Namibia’s economy, agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, tourism, retail, and mining, highlighting the country’s development priorities.

In her remarks, President Nandi-Ndaitwah stated, “When the Namibia Dollar was first launched in 1993, it marked a defining moment in our journey toward self-determination. Today, we reaffirm that legacy with a currency that represents not only economic stability, but the hopes and progress of our people.”

She added that the new series is more than just an update of monetary tools. “These coins and notes are designed not just for durability but for identity, ensuring that every Namibian sees their story reflected in the money they hold. In their design, we see our past, present, and the promise of a dynamic, forward-looking Namibia.”

The launch underscores Namibia’s continued commitment to innovation, inclusion, and sovereignty, embedding national values into the currency that moves through every level of society.
