Minister Theofelus Engages Erongo Leaders to Strengthen ICT Access and Regional Connectivity. The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Honourable Emma Theofelus, led a high-level stakeholder engagement session with Erongo Region’s leadership on Wednesday, focusing on key issues impacting the region’s digital ecosystem.
The meeting addressed critical areas such as network connectivity, access to information, digital literacy, and broadcast service coverage. The engagement formed part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to align its Strategic Plan with Namibia’s national development priorities and to foster regional-level implementation and cooperation.
Local leaders, including regional councillors, municipal officials, and ICT professionals, shared insights into persistent challenges such as weak signal coverage, limited internet access in public institutions, and the need for more community-driven digital training initiatives.
The engagement also explored opportunities to expand mobile network coverage, improve public access to government digital services, and ensure local broadcasting platforms serve the information needs of residents across urban and remote areas of Erongo.
Participants welcomed the Ministry’s inclusive approach, urging faster rollout of infrastructure upgrades and greater collaboration with service providers. Stakeholders also stressed the importance of targeted digital literacy programs for youth and small businesses to fully participate in the digital economy.
Minister Theofelus reaffirmed the Ministry’s intent to continue working closely with regional governments, private sector players, and development partners to achieve a digitally inclusive Namibia.
