Namibian Swimmers Head to Singapore for World Aquatic Open Water Championships

Namibian Swimmers Head to Singapore for World Aquatic Open Water Championships. Namibia’s open water swimming team has arrived in Singapore to participate in the World Aquatic Open Water Championships, taking place from today through Sunday, 20 July.

The team includes four swimmers: Madison Bergh, Reza Westerduin, Tristan Nell, and Nico Esslinger. They are supported by coach Jörn Diekmann and team manager Angelika Diekmann.

Nico Esslinger, currently based in Antibes, France on a swimming scholarship, joins the team to compete in four events: the 10 km, 5 km, 3 km knockout, and the 1.5 km relay.

Reza Westerduin, who trains in England, will participate in the 5 km, 3 km knockout, and the 1.5 km relay. Local swimmers Madison Bergh and Tristan Nell are also entered in those same three events.

The squad has been preparing intensively for the competition, aiming to deliver strong performances in the demanding open water conditions of Singapore. The team’s participation reflects growing momentum and development in Namibia’s competitive swimming landscape.

Coach Jörn Diekmann praised the swimmers for their focus and commitment leading up to the event. “Every athlete has dedicated themselves fully to training. They’re prepared to give it their all, and we’re excited to see them compete at this high level,” he said.

The Namibian team enters the championships with confidence, and supporters back home are rallying behind them as they take on top international competitors. Their participation not only showcases individual talent but also represents Namibia’s growing presence in global aquatic sports.
