UNAM Joins Regional Academic Network to Advance Social and Behaviour Change Research

UNAM Joins Regional Academic Network to Advance Social and Behaviour Change Research. The University of Namibia (UNAM) has joined a newly established regional platform of academic institutions aimed at advancing research and capacity building in social and behaviour change (SBC). Launched by UNICEF, the Academia for Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Network brings together 24 universities from across Eastern and Southern Africa, with UNAM now formally part of this collaborative initiative.

The network is designed to promote interdisciplinary research, develop evidence-based policies, and strengthen academic contributions to addressing pressing social challenges in the region. By becoming a member, UNAM reinforces its role in shaping impactful discourse and innovation in areas such as public health, education, gender equity, and youth engagement.

According to UNAM, the university will contribute to knowledge generation, curriculum development, and capacity building within the SBC space. The network also presents opportunities for staff and students to engage in collaborative projects with academic peers across the region.

UNICEF launched the SBC Network as part of its broader strategy to localise development solutions and ensure that academic institutions play a central role in shaping evidence-based programming and interventions.

UNAM’s inclusion in the network is expected to enhance its visibility and impact on regional policymaking and practice, especially in designing solutions that are culturally grounded and community-driven.
