Netball Namibia Leaders Unite to Strengthen Governance and Drive National Growth

Netball Namibia Leaders Unite to Strengthen Governance and Drive National Growth. Senior officials and stakeholders in Namibian netball gathered in Otjiwarongo on Friday, 16 May 2025, for a Governance and Strategic Leadership Engagement aimed at advancing leadership capacity, governance, and operational effectiveness within the sport.

Held under the theme “Strengthening Leadership, Governance and Operational Excellence in Netball,” the engagement brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, the Namibia Sports Commission, and Netball Namibia. The initiative seeks to align regional netball operations with national sports development goals.

Ms. Juanitha Witbeen, Acting President of Netball Namibia, officially opened the event, followed by a keynote address from Ms. Jo-Ann Ndilokelwa Manuel, Director of Sport Development. Manuel emphasized the role of transparent governance and strategic leadership in transforming netball into a more professional and sustainable sport in Namibia.

Key facilitators, including Mr. Irvine Ndjavera, Mr. Freddy Mwiya, Mr. Conny Samaria, and Dr. Peter Mawere, led sessions on a range of governance-related topics. These included legal compliance under the Namibia Sport Act, ethical leadership, financial accountability, and the professionalisation of netball structures.

Participants were also given hands-on opportunities through practical group activities, including a mock Annual General Meeting and the creation of a one-year regional operational calendar—tools designed to promote consistent planning and reporting.

The engagement will conclude with each participating region making a formal commitment to improving governance practices and strengthening the sport’s foundation nationwide.
