The ceremony marked more than a celebration of sporting excellence — it signaled a new era for Namibian netball. MTC’s Chief Corporate Affairs and Marketing Officer, Tim Ekandjo, announced plans to professionalise the league starting next season. Under the new model, each of the 12 clubs will receive support through the MTC National Internship Programme, and every player will earn a monthly allowance of N$500 for six months, with future increases planned.

Ekandjo said the move aims to strengthen club marketing and attract sponsorships, noting: “Professionalising the sport starts with empowering clubs and players to build their brands.”

Representing the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Jo-Ann Manuel commended the initiative, emphasising the social impact of financial support for players. She also announced government plans to provide land and a spring floor for a new national indoor netball court.

Netball Namibia President Juanita Witbeen celebrated the league’s contribution to national rankings, crediting it for elevating Namibia from 24th to 15th globally.
