Fish River Canyon Hiking Season Postponed Amid High Water Levels

Fish River Canyon Hiking Season Postponed Amid High Water Levels. Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has officially announced the postponement of the Fish River Canyon hiking season due to unusually high water levels that have raised safety concerns for both hikers and the surrounding environment.

In a public notice released today, NWR emphasized that the decision was made in the interest of public safety and environmental conservation. “Your safety and the protection of our natural environment are our top priorities,” the statement read.

The Fish River Canyon, one of Africa’s largest and most iconic natural landmarks, typically welcomes hikers from around the world during the dry winter months. However, the current water conditions have rendered parts of the trail inaccessible and potentially hazardous, prompting the delay of the 2025 season’s opening.

Guests who have already secured bookings for the trail are being offered flexible options. These include postponing their stay to a later, safer date, or requesting a refund in accordance with standard terms and conditions.

NWR is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates through its official communication channels as soon as conditions improve and the trail is deemed safe for use. In the meantime, travelers and tour operators are encouraged to stay informed and reach out directly for assistance.
