India Donates 2,000 Tonnes of Food Aid to Namibia for Drought Relief. India has extended a helping hand to Namibia by providing 1,000 metric tonnes of rice and 1,000 tonnes of maize to support the country’s efforts in combating severe drought conditions.

Rahul Shrivastava, India’s newly appointed high commissioner to Namibia, shared the news during a national day reception in Windhoek. He emphasized the strong bond between the two nations, built on shared values and mutual cooperation, which has grown stronger through recent diplomatic engagements.

“India has always stood by Namibia, both before and after its independence,” Shrivastava said, highlighting the deep-rooted relationship between the countries. He also noted that the two sides have continued to strengthen their partnership through various bilateral initiatives.

The announcement coincided with India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations, a milestone marking the adoption of the country’s constitution. Shrivastava reflected on India’s progress over the past 75 years, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to justice, equality, and democracy.

Speaking at the event, Namibia’s Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Jenelly Matundu, reaffirmed India’s importance as a key diplomatic and development partner.

She also pointed out the increasing number of high-level visits between the two countries in recent years, demonstrating their commitment to deepening ties across various sectors.

India’s donation comes at a critical time as Namibia continues to battle the effects of drought, reinforcing the strong friendship and collaboration between the two nations.
