Windhoek’s Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign Strengthens Community Responsibility. The third edition of the Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign took place this morning in the John Pandeni Constituency, reaffirming the City of Windhoek’s commitment to restoring and maintaining a clean urban environment.
The initiative was led by City Councillors Matheus Shoongo, Toini Ambabi, and Jesaya Ikali. Activities began at the Soweto Market parking area, where participants received a safety briefing before being divided into teams to carry out the clean-up across the constituency.
Speaking at the event, Councillor Shoongo reminded residents that maintaining cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the City but a shared duty. He emphasized that residents can contribute by avoiding littering, cleaning their surroundings, and actively participating in community clean-up initiatives.
In line with the campaign’s theme, “Go Green, Skip the Plastic,” participants were provided with reusable shopping bags sponsored by MTC. The gesture reinforced the importance of sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics and encouraged environmentally conscious practices among residents.
The City of Windhoek also expressed appreciation to NAMICA Supermarket for its continued support of the campaign. Contributions such as refreshments, refuse bags, and volunteer participation were highlighted as examples of strong corporate citizenship and commitment to community development.
The Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign is scheduled to continue across all constituencies until November, ensuring sustained momentum in the city’s drive toward cleanliness and sustainability. The next clean-up initiative will take place on 18 April 2026 at the Grysblock Open Space, also within the John Pandeni Constituency.
By combining civic leadership, community participation, and corporate support, the campaign demonstrates a collective effort to preserve Windhoek’s image as a clean and sustainable city.
