Otjomuise Residents Rally for 7th Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign

Otjomuise Residents Rally for 7th Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign. Residents of Otjomuise turned out in large numbers early today to participate in the 7th edition of the Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign, held in 8ste Laan of the Khomasdal Constituency. The event highlighted the strong community spirit among Windhoek residents and their commitment to keeping the city clean and healthy.

The clean-up was led by Khomasdal Constituency Councillor Samuel Angolo, supported by local community leaders. Councillor Angolo emphasised that the campaign extends beyond removing litter, stating that it fosters pride in communities and ensures Windhoek remains a welcoming city. He also confirmed that the next clean-up event will take place next weekend on Kritchner Street in Khomasdal.

Youth involvement was a key feature of the campaign. George Deolfino, the City of Windhoek’s Junior Councillor and a Grade 11 learner from Cosmos High School, praised the strong turnout of children. He described their participation as a positive step toward nurturing responsible citizens who understand the value of environmental stewardship.

Participants also engaged in educational activities focused on recycling. They learned about the Katutura Waste Buy-Back Centre, a municipal initiative that purchases sorted waste materials from residents in exchange for cash. The program not only encourages recycling but also provides residents with opportunities to earn income while contributing to sustainability.

The event demonstrated how collaboration between local authorities, community members, and youth can achieve meaningful and lasting impact. By combining hands-on clean-up efforts with education and income-generating opportunities, the Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign continues to reinforce environmental responsibility and community pride across Windhoek.
