Windhoek’s /Ae //Gams Festival Bursts to Life in Celebration of Culture and Unity. The 2025 edition of the Windhoek /Ae //Gams Arts & Cultural Festival has officially kicked off, transforming the City of Windhoek headquarters into a vibrant hub of tradition, creativity, and national pride.

Festival-goers were welcomed with an explosion of colour, sound, and aroma as the capital came alive with music, dance, traditional cuisine, handmade crafts, and live cultural performances that reflect the rich diversity of Namibian heritage. From intricate beadwork to drumming rhythms and mouth-watering local dishes, every corner of the venue offers a window into the soul of the nation.

The annual /Ae //Gams Festival, named after the indigenous term for “place of steam” – a nod to Windhoek’s geothermal past – is a cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar. It celebrates not only the creative spirit of the city but also the importance of cultural preservation and exchange.

Visitors and residents alike flocked to the event grounds, taking in live music performances, theatrical displays, and exhibitions that honour the many communities that call Windhoek home. This year’s theme, focused on unity through diversity, is evident in every activity and performance – a true reflection of Namibia’s multicultural tapestry.

City of Windhoek officials expressed enthusiasm about the strong turnout and community participation, highlighting the festival’s role in fostering social cohesion and boosting local arts and tourism.

With more activities planned throughout the week, including youth showcases, culinary contests, and dance marathons, organisers are encouraging the public to experience the full festival programme.
