Walvis Bay’s Farm 37 Housing Project Breaks Ground with N$81 Million IInvestment. The long-awaited Farm 37 Extension Proper housing development officially broke ground on Tuesday in Walvis Bay, marking a major milestone in Namibia’s efforts to address housing shortages for low-income earners.
Erongo Regional Governor, Hon. Natalia Goagoses, confirmed that the central government has committed N$75 million to Phase 1 of the project through the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development. The funds will go towards the construction of 200 houses and servicing of 1,500 erven in the area now known as Green Valley.
Governor Goagoses emphasized that the project aligns with the government’s priority to restore dignity through affordable, quality housing, particularly for underserved communities.
The project falls under the Mass Informal Settlements Upgrading Programme, aimed at providing secure land tenure and improving living conditions in overcrowded areas. Farm 37 is expected to play a key role in easing pressure on Walvis Bay’s overburdened informal housing zones and managing rural-to-urban migratiothrough better planning.
The Walvis Bay Municipality has contributed an additional N$6 million to the initiative, which will be used for bulk infrastructure including roads, water supply, and sewerage systems.
Deputy Mayor Saara Mutondoka called on all stakeholders to support the project: “This is a social development initiative — a chance to build a better, more inclusive Walvis Bay.”Phase one is slated for completion by February 2026, paving the way for broader community upliftment.
