Transformer Fault at Ombika Substation Leaves Okaukuejo and Halali Without Power

Transformer Fault at Ombika Substation Leaves Okaukuejo and Halali Without Power. A transformer malfunction at the Ombika substation has left the villages of Okaukuejo, Halali, and surrounding areas without electricity since Monday afternoon, according to a public notice issued by NamPower.

The national power utility reported that the outage began at 15:41 on 19 May 2025 and is the result of a fault at the transformer servicing the region. Technical teams have since been dispatched to begin repair work, though the company has not yet provided an estimated time for full restoration.

NamPower has urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to exercise caution during the outage, reminding the public that all electrical points and power lines should be treated as “live,” as electricity may be restored without prior warning.

The utility company extended its apologies for the disruption and acknowledged the inconvenience caused to communities and businesses operating in and around the Etosha National Park area, where both Okaukuejo and Halali are located.

No further details have been released regarding the cause of the transformer failure or the expected duration of the outage. NamPower’s corporate communication office stated that updates would be provided as progress is made on the repairs.

The outage has raised concerns, especially given the area’s significance as a key tourism destination within Etosha, with both Okaukuejo and Halali serving as central camps for visitors.
