President Nandi-Ndaitwah Casts Vote Early as Namibia’s Local Elections Begin. Namibians headed to the polls this morning as voting for regional council and local authority leaders officially opened at 07h00 nationwide. Among the earliest voters was President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, accompanied by her husband, Lieutenant General (Retired) Epaphras Ndaitwah, who cast their ballots at the Emma Hoogenhout Primary School Polling Station in Hochland Park, Windhoek.
Their early arrival set a notable tone as the country embarked on a full day of democratic participation. Polling stations will remain open until 21h00, giving citizens ample time to exercise their right to vote. The day has been declared a public holiday to ensure that all eligible voters have the opportunity to take part in selecting their regional and local authority representatives.
Across the country, electoral teams began operations early to manage voter flow and ensure smooth proceedings throughout the day. The elections provide residents with the chance to choose leaders who will oversee community development, service delivery and key local governance responsibilities for the next term.
For many communities, the outcome of these elections carries significant importance as regional and local authorities play a central role in infrastructure planning, land administration, and essential services that directly affect daily life.
Voters who arrived early at polling stations reported orderly queues and efficient processing, reflecting ongoing efforts to uphold transparency and accessibility throughout the election process.
As Namibians continue casting their ballots throughout the day, attention remains on voter turnout and the overall administration of the elections, which mark an important chapter in local democratic governance.
